TECHNOPOLIS CITY OF ATHENS

Athens Coffee Festival

The ideal setting for a festival around coffee culture!

Thanks to its industrial setting and its historic aura, Technopolis Gazi – Athens is the ideal choice for hosting a festival about coffee and its surrounding culture.

The ATHENS COFFEE FESTIVAL is held in Technopolis Gazi – Athens, at the historic gas factory which has been linked, in the consciousness of the Athenian public, with the organization of special artistic, visual and culinary events. The industrial style and the historic aura exuded by both the buildings and the surrounding outdoor premises, create the perfect setting for hosting a festival on coffee and its surrounding culture.
The factory was built in 1857 by French investor Francois Theophile Feraldi, who had contracted the public lighting of the capital. Thirty years later, the management of the company was transferred to the Italian, Giovanni Baptista Serpieri, who proceeded to the modernization and expansion of the gas plant, which was now also producing gas intended for home use. In 1938, ownership of the plant was transferred to the Municipality of Athens but, after the war, gas consumption began to decline. In 1984, the furnaces were finally turned off and, two years later, the site was declared a protected historical monument by the Ministry of Culture. The first artistic/visual events were hosted at the factory premises in 1999, and since 2013 the premises also host the Industrial Gasworks Museum.

The historical site of Technopolis – Gazi is located in the city center, with close access to a Metro Station, while it has been linked, in the consciousness of the Athenian public, with the organization of special artistic, visual and culinary events.
