PANHELLENIC ROASTING CHAMPIONSHIP | ORGANIZED BY SCA GREECE

The 37-year-old Panagiotis Matziounis, founder of Roaster’s Kolektiva, which is active in Serres, won first place in this year’s—especially competitive and ambitious—Panhellenic Roasting Championship. Second place went to Thanassis Nikolis, head roaster at Kudu Coffee, and third place went to Giorgos Spithakis, head roaster and co-owner of Crop Roastery Brewery, located in Heraklion, Crete.
The event was held for the first time in Greece, and gave the opportunity to eight talented roasters from all across the country to showcase their knowledge, skills and talent in coffee roasting.
Contestants were rated for both their ability to assess the quality of the green coffee they used and the roasting profile they chose to use in order to highlight the unique characteristics of each variety. The winner will represent Greece in the world championship, to be held in China in November.
